About Us:
THE BEGINNING
Our Story
Our Filipina Lady website began just after I first visited Josie, her family and friends in the Philippines in January of 1999. I had written to her after finding her on a Filipina Lady introduction website 'Beautiful Filipina'.
I paid for her address along with over 25 other addresses. I did not feel like I was getting a Mail Order Bride, nor was I looking for a future mate. The term "Mail Order Bride" is much abused and very incorrect as that method has been discontinued for several years now and is not any part of the INS procedures nor is it allowed by the Embassy in Manila and anyone that has gone through the interview with the government knows there is no such thing today as MAIL ORDER BRIDES.
Why did I write to these girls??? I was surfing the Internet and since I had friends that were from the Philippines, I began to read the profiles of many Filipinas that wanted to write to a penpal. I was very hesitant at first, but I thought it would be fun to have a penpal. I wrote the letters and then I waited and nothing seemed to happen. After a few weeks, some letters began to arrive in response to my letter of introduction, and most all the letters were very respectful. I was intrigued at having a friend in a world 8,000 miles away.
One of the sweetest letters was from Josie. She wrote on the outside of her envelope, Please have a smile on your face before you read my letter. I then read her letter that she told me a little about her and that she was the 5th in the family of eight children but her family was not complete because her Father was missing. She did not explain what this meant to me until much later. I later found that she was embarrassed or that her family was not complete like most of the families.
I became interested in her sincerity in her letter and curious what she meant about her Father. We began to exchange more letters and in a letter she asked me a request. She wanted me to call her for her birthday present. ( She never asked for any money ). When I finally figured out how to call with the country code, the city code and the number, I finally her the phone ring.
Some young Filipina answered the phone "Hello, Good afternoon". I said Hello, this is Delaney from America calling for Josephine Ponio. Suddenly the one that answered the phone was yelling "Jo... jo your Americano is on the phone, come, come hurry."
Then I heard this soft voice say "Hello"..... I said "Josie.... this is Delaney". The phone was silent... and I heard the words " Oh... Thank the Lord.... " I said "Hello Josie" then again the words 'Thank the Lord' and she said Hello this is Josie.
Later on I found from my friends that had the website, that Josie was giving Thanks to the Lord that her prayers were answered and I had called to talk with her. Needless to say, I was very touched by this and my heart began to melt at the sincerity of this Filipina Lady.
Later on our phone calls included us singing together, I would sing a song to her, and then it was her turn and she would sing a song to me. Many times she would tell me that a friend, or one of her family members were there and would I like to talk to them. I would always tell her Yes, I would enjoy talking to them. Later I learned that she was proud of me and she wanted to share my friendship with her family and friend.
Then when the invitation to come visit her, her family and friends ... I accepted the invitation and our friendship grew and our love was born. When I went to visit, I stayed at her Grandparents home and they were very friendly and we all became closer. Then one night Josie asked me if I wanted to talk to her Mother. (I learned that her Father had passed away when she was just the age of 11) .
I asked Josie if I should ask her Mother for her hand in marriage, and she said Yes I must talk to her Mother. Josie's Mother could not speak English very well so Josie had to interpret for her... and so I expressed that I would like to marry Josie. Her mother said that Josie must finish her study first and she must be 18. I completely agreed and then Josie's Mother stood up and announced to the rest of the family that Josie would be married to Delaney.
We were married in Cebu, Philippines on January 29th, 2001 and now we are in the progress of getting her immigration papers approved so she can join me in the USA. There was no talk of any family members trying to come here, her Mother has other children still to take care of and all the rest of Josie's family does not have any desire to come here.
While we are waiting for Josie to be approved, Josie has her own place there in the village of Mangagoy. She is very proud of her own place and the cost of it is 1,000 Pesos per month. (About $20 US dollars). The home has a area in front that Josie has now started a small little convenience store and she calls it "Josie's little store". I sent her some money to help stock it with some items that visitors would purchase and now her Mother and younger sister and brother, have moved in with her. Her mom also cooks some items to sell and watches the store during the daytime while Josie goes to work for a life insurance firm there, selling insurance and now Josie has been promoted to marketing supervisor.
I am not rich as I am a sales counselor for a retail electronics store and manage to make a livable income but far from rich status.
I began this website in tribute to Josie, my FILIPINA LADY cause I was so very proud of her and her family and friends. When I posted our Photo Album, I began to receive letters from guys that wanted to find out how to meet a Filipina and I also began to receive many letters with photos and a profile from Filipinas that wanted to also find a penpal. So from that, Filipina Lady evolved into an introduction service and now we also offer some tours that include air flights, hotel accommodations and a travel guide to introduce our members to the many girls that would like to find someone in their lives.
We have been fortunate to introduce several couples that are now married or engaged and we have had complete respect from everyone involved. Because of our love story that is true and real, we have inspired many others to have the adventure that we have.
Because of the NO DIVORCE LAW in the Philippines, the traditional girls from families that have traditional values of love and commitment..... the men have fallen in love with their lady as well as her family and friends, and the traditional and sincere way of life of the Filipino. These values used to be the way of life in America many years ago (and yes there are still some of those here). Just take a look at the divorce rate and all the people that have multiple marriage here. The values are not the same for the majority of people living in the USA.
The story goes on, but the best way is for you to view OUR STORY IN PICTURES, the 'Photo Album' and view each page I have put here. It will tell you that my life has a whole new meaning now that I have my Filipina Lady.
